Citygate

The citygate is the intersection between the mainline transmission system owned by a natural gas transmission or pipeline company and the distribution system operated by the local distribution company (LDC).

Citygate

Gas is metered at the citygate because this is the point where responsibility for the transportation of gas transitions from the transmission company to the distribution company. A citygate may also serve as a commercial trading point where natural gas is bought and sold.

Citygates in the U.S. commonly used for trading include:

  • Algonquin (Massachusetts)
  • Chicago (Illinois)
  • Florida Gas Transmission, also called FGT (Florida)
  • Michigan Consolidated, also called MichCon (Michigan)
  • PG&E (Northern California)
  • SoCalGas (Southern California)
  • Transco Z6 NY (New York)
